FAQ
What is the best time of year to visit Las Terrenas?
The Dominican Republic has a tropical climate, so you can visit any time of year. However, it’s important that you keep in mind that although temperatures don’t vary much during the day (between 80 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit), they drop significantly at night (between 60 and 70 Fahrenheit). It’s usually warmer in Las Terrenas than on the rest of the island. If you plan on staying at a resort there, it might be best not to arrive when they close their pools for cleaning – this normally happens around 4pm or 5pm each day and reopens around 7am or 8am every morning.
What is the best way to get from Samana airport to Las Terrenas?
There are two options: by bus or by taxi/private car/rental car. The bus takes approximately 2 hours and costs 12 pesos per person; if you have luggage with you then this price increases by 3 pesos per piece of checked luggage (up to 2 pieces). Buses leave several times per day as early as 6 am until 11 pm; there are also buses that go directly from Samana Airport but these depart only once daily at 10:30 pm so just make sure not too miss them! Cab fares tend not be cheaper than those provided by buses although they may be slightly faster depending on traffic conditions along your route
Pros & Cons of Play punta Popy
Pros:
- The staff is very friendly and always willing to help you with anything you need.
- There are many restaurants and grocery stores nearby. The hotel will give you a list of all the places where you can go for food, drinks and souvenirs.
- There is a pool bar that serves snacks such as sandwiches, burgers and fries during the day. In the evening they also make cocktails which are very cheap compared to other places on this island! We paid only $10 USD per cocktail (including tip) which was great because we got buzzed earlier than usual 😉
Cons:
- This place has no AC so it gets hot inside during summer months (we visited in January 2019) but if you open your windows they provide cool air from outside so it’s ok! No AC isn’t usually a big deal when it rains since it cools down outside when there’s thunderstorms but this time around there wasn’t much rain.. maybe because of El Niño? If I went again maybe I would bring some small fans just in case.. Or maybe take a look at nearby resorts with ac units before booking here 🙂
